COUPLES

Working with couples is one of the biggest challenges for a therapist, as many therapists will tell you.

The main reason is that couples often come to a session with a great deal of anger and resentment. The session is then seen as an opportunity to “talk through” all the problems. This “talking through” often turns into an explosion of sufficient force to send the therapist scurrying for a bomb shelter.

The big question is: Does talking things through necessarily improve a relationship?

Very often it doesn’t.

There are other ways. Ways I am very excited about. And that really work! That can set couples therapy on a far more positive course. Solution Focused Brief Therapy is an excellent therapy to guide a couple towards a more positive and fulfilling future.

A good way to begin is to read the following, then reread it and then possibly read it for a third time ...

YOU HAVE TO FALL IN LOVE TO FALL OUT OF LOVE TO BEGIN TO LOVE
A fairly high percentage of couples (the figure is estimated at 40%) reach a point where they feel that their relationship is no longer worthwhile. Some of them divorce, others stay together because they have children or because divorce would cause too many problems, or... or ... or ... But there are other couples who save their relationship by making important changes. You have to fall out of love ... to begin to love ...

Cizelle is also very impressed by the excellent research that dr John Gottman had done on couples over a period of 40 years. His findings are life changing and Cizelle applies some of dr Gottman’s principles in couples therapy. It could be worth your while to watch some of his youtube videos.

Couples reageer baie goed op Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) en indien daar trauma by een of albei was, kan Brainworking Recursive Therapy aanvullend gebruik word.
